  • I think it is all a matter of taste around aesthetics and layout as you say. I prefer the look of the beta, so it's been easy for me to make the switch! I never used custom FriendFeed tabs either, so I don't miss anything there.
  • Dunc, they missed the boat a long time ago when they didn't add apps that real people (read non geeks/early adopters) use. Check out their growth in Alexa, stagnant over last 3 months. Facebook has eaten their lunch and they are not going to make any money.
  • You can have your "tabs" back with the Better FriendFeed Beta GM script
  • I'm going to go with "they took hints from the aesthetically pleasing OneSwirl after it shut down".

Which, by the way, was very sexy and usable. Too bad no-one cared because we weren't funded or anything.

  • I agree with many of your points here. The user grouping and friend lists are a welcome addition of course. And I really like the filtering by service options being located directly at the top of individual feeds.

But I too work mostly on a wide screen and don't like that I have to travel so far to the right just to get my feed. A quick link in the top left to my own feed would solve that for me. Also, I think you're right, I might also prefer for the sidebar to extend only the length of the links to provide an even cleaner look.
