    Well, you have to understand that those countries are a lot smaller and it's much easier to get the infrastructure in place than in somewhere like the US, which is large and sprawled out.

    Square footage of japan is less than a quarter that of california.

    If you don't have to span one of the largest continents in the world for one of the lowest population densities (same here in Canada) - then your datacentres can be WAY WAY stronger.

    Here we have distance to contend with - and until you figure a way to connect cities hundreds of miles apart with seemingly near infinite speed... then you're gonna have slow speeds in big countries.
