  • Eh. I don't know. I don't think Twitter is going to bleed too much, despite how many bleeding-edge folks are jumping ship for other tools (read: FriendFeed fiends). Yes, they have their work cut out for them, but they've got a tremendous amount of community momentum - despite the bevy of alternatives available.
  • If Twitted hasn't bled out yet, it clearly has clotting factor to spare. Minimalism is an under appreciated strength in product design. Twitter not only has an engaged user base, but also a constellation of auxiliary apps hanging off the API. Don't underestimate the gravitational pull of this dead simple experience.
  • There is no doubt the head tweerers are gifted with the defibrillator. The APIs seem to be the source of much that is great and what may ultimately kill Twitter. It will be interesting to see how the copycats deal with the APIs.
  • Twitter has a very clear concept of "What are you doing?", which is much stronger than, say, Friendfeed's concept. The question is how much of fashion / zeitgeist is built into Twitter and how much of practical use is there.
