Tech blogging is only as boring as the feeds you read

Started by Duncan Riley · 4 months ago

Steve Hodson lights the fire under an interesting meme this weekend, suggesting that Tech blogging has become boring. In the post he cites examples within the echosphere that surrounds CrunchMeme.

I do agree with Steve to a point. There are many me-too blogs that report the same thin ... Continue reading »

  • This is just the evolution of the field. Its clear that it is easier to be another echo. It takes a lot more work to be original and when you find something good, do your part to lend attention to it.
  • Duncan, it's clear we agree. I wish there was more focus on new reporting and new angles or new data, rather than making sure every big blog covered a single story. But I don't think Tech blogging is in trouble. It's fun! And there are a lot of new voices out there contributing. Beyond FriendFeed, some good options are reading RSSMeme and ReadBurner or individual shared link blogs like mine or Robert's.

  • Louis, I probably should have mentioned RSSMeme and ReadBurner as well, two great ways of finding fresh content. I had Robert's feed, just added yours.
  • Thanks for the kind words Duncan - from you they are high praise indeed and I truly appreciate it.
  • i think we need more context reporting ... from someone who understands where all the new stuff is going, what it is for, how it fits into a larger human history than just today's techmeme stats

i read it for the voice, more than the content anyway .. i like the duncan and louis and robert and michael voices that permeate the active sites,

me-too is boring, the personal much less so ... heck on a slow news day i would rather read about the frustrated tech news sleuth in action than any thing that he/she might find
  • more .. because i care :-)

mr. riley, too much stuff on one site, for inquisitr, in my opinion

i was in an art show a couple of weeks ago in a five star hotel in bangalore, and it was combined with a jewelry show ... result, a split audience, the jewelry lovers confused by the art, the art lovers confused by the jewelry, nobody from either genre sold anything ...

have you thought of doing this in two or three different sites? guess we could call that denton-style, as opposed to huffingtonpost-style, though that is primarily politics and not quite so confusing until you scroll down the page ...

i like your voice, and come here to read you, i have a more narrow interest area than what is available here, but i often cannot find you easily, or prominently ... so i actually follow you on friendfeed more than your bread and butter site!
  • I think the mix here is great. It has me reading a few things I wouldn't have known otherwise, and as long as they stay interesting and in the minority, I think it's a nice spice.
