Plurkair: A Basic, Open Source Desktop Client For Plurk

Started by Duncan Riley · 1 year ago

Despite showing a lot of promise, and more recently obtaining unofficial API support, microblogging platform Plurk has lacked desktop tools to compete head on with competing platforms such as Twitter, Pownce and Jaiku.

I’m no AIR expert, but I can hack my way around ... Continue reading »

  • Duncan - I tried to download it and it just Plurked ?! (Seriously, no link from the graphic). Speaking of your recent coding, think you should put the GreaseMonkey scripts for Friendfeed in re-runs. Bought a new box over the weekend and until I loaded them up, I was completely lost :)
  • Wow I'm impressed Duncan, didn't know you were a code monkey :). So at the moment it's essentially a wap browser emulator. Have you got any plans to develop this further actually using the API, or was this done to show readers how easy it is to create an air app?

at the moment I haven't had a serious look at the Plurk API, but eventually it's a space I'd be interested in exploring. Oddly enough I know a lot more about the FriendFeed API so far, so it might be where I start. You are right though on the ease side, once I found the right tools (and I'd add, finding the right tools and knowing what you're looking at is the hardest part) the rest was easy.
  • hoping to get more in the next release.
  • Hey Duncan,

You created the PlurkAIR desktop client app? Nice. If I whine enough, will you create other apps too?
  • Christian
basic apps like this...no probs. This doesn't call the API, it just renders the mobile client in an AIR app, the difference between the two time wise is huge, so if you have something like plurk/m you want in an AIR app, let me know, now I've done it once I'd reckon I could produce another in less than 15 minutes.
  • If that is the case, i will whine a bit more and maybe we can get more apps from Duncan.

  • You must be kidding friend. :D
  • Wow, I had no idea you were such a coder!

  • Duncan - Very nice indeed! I'd like to see Arrington try to whip up something as slick as this ;-)
  • nice job Duncan, I didn't realize until now that you created this App
  • thx Tyler. It's pretty basic, and I've still got a lot to learn with AIR apps.
  • might want to open up URL in external window as right now it opens them in
    the little Plurk Air window
  • Hey Duncan. Good job on the app. It is very basic and it sits on the desktop, which is nice, but definitely looking forward to more features once the API's are released :-)
  • Great. Was waiting for this.
  • Sounds like a great little desktop client - pity I use a mac though!
  • Yup I agree it seems like a cool little app.
  • i found that when the plurkair refresh , the content in the input box will lost,i hope this bug will be fixed.
  • I never saw this on FriendFeed unless wasn't posted there. Tho, I never really use Plurk other than with Ping.fm, this is a first for all I know.
  • You're right about Twitter, Pownce and Jaik being more powerful. Plurkair has got a fair bit of bugs now.
  • I had installed plurkair previously and had encountered many problems. I guess the bugs are solved now but it gave me the creeps.
  • I am always amazed by people who know how to code. A great software, will use it man.
  • Hi Duncan i think you are an excellent coder thanks for thanks for the great app.
  • This is seriously an awesome app! Duncan girl you are the man!
  • It's time for me to use it ;)
  • Is this an embedded Plurk mobile?

  • thx Tyler. It's pretty basic, and I've still got a lot to peruse with AIR apps.
  • I've been reading along for a while now.
I just wanted to drop you a comment to say keep up the good work
  • I must congratulate you and thank you for devising such cool application, I mean it has such innovative features overcoming many problems i prevously had.
  • i think " AIR apps for Plurk" works good, but not for beginners especially which are not interested in software stuff!

  • A couple of people have hacked the mobile version into Adobe Air to create two similar apps: PlurkAir and PlurkIt.
  • I think this is a good apps.
  • I really like your post. Thank you.
  • Thanks for the application.
  • a basic open get jammed when too much users there, it gives me a lot's of problem but when it's open it seems to be come in handy nowdays to use it as rough in a grass$
  • Hey Duncan,
Good job !! Plurkair will be a good competitor for twitter in near future. I'm wondering if more features are added up in coming versions. I still need to learn more about AIR. Seems to be a good application. Are there any tutorials available to create AIR applications? If yes, please let me know. I will give it a try.

  • Twitter will be facing a good competition from Plurkair in a short time. This is a great application with so many new features. Thanks to Duncan for sharing the post with all of us.
  • very catchy tool for the desktop , why cant anyone come up with something for th mac?
The bugs are solved this time ,, they were such a pain earlier.
i had installed it thinking it would be the same as earlier ,, but it works in a totally refined way after the bug removal .
  • Plukair is a very useful desktop tool. Ithink the bugs are very small in number which we can just ignore.
Guys go for it. Its very helpful and time saving.

  • Thanks great post that helped me out.
  • one needs to very careful and should be update about the recent update ,, otherwise this can be realy demotivating. like the writer faced it ..
I can’t describe the feeling of spending hours working on something to only later find someone else did nearly the same thing two days before
  • It is very Great apps Duncan. Thanks dude.
  • Hey Duncan, thanks for this great application. Though i don't really familiar with AIR apps.
  • hey guys i just downloaded it it works perfectly,, go on try it it will serve your needs.
  • The Plurk Air is the first desktop application that I have seen for this still-new social network micro blogging service. And after using it for a couple of minutes, I have to say that is’ getting the job done pretty much comfortably and as expected. I have some other stuff on mind right now and can’t send forth a thorough review about this application, but I will publish a post once I have got some vacant time and spare brain cells to review that application bullet proof.

    one hour cash advance
  • Plurk is a Microblogging Service and Plurk Air is the first Desktop Application that I have seen for Plurk. Check out a review and more about this Desktop Application. Its very interesting.
  • This innovation is truly impressive. It somewhat gives a whole new definition to Plurk, as well as provides the users more options . This application will surely be appealing to a lot of people.
