Oh you mean you have never leveraged one profile (say a blog) to leverage another (Twitter or FriendFeed)?

How many "Social Media Marketers" (the ones you might call friends) actually measure the effect of their Twitter participation - actually track clicks?

Lots of them. Louis Gray talks about one all the time. Statsbot, I think his name is? But just about anyone with a stats program installed on their blog domain, I imagine, at least looks at the referrer logs.

Wow, this definitely an extreme example. But this shows that Twitter is really going mainstream. The only thing we are left to do is make sure that we follow only the right people not to be prompted to buy a book in every second tweet :)

veritably, "chicaweb" we really don't choose. We have the opportunity to block, but what a stinkin' inconvenience. I get enough bacn. Invitation to "friendship" for one's personal, selfish gain is no friendship at all. Don't estimate you are doing us any favors by asking for friendship good so you can sell us your stuff. If we thirst your wares, we'll google it or ask a friend – a true friend – for a recommendation. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with selling products on the information superhighway, or using the Internet for purchasing, but following twitter folks just to get them to follow back so you sell products defeats the whole purpose of "friending." Go back to your SEOP, please. kthxbai.

Actually John, the post was a go at Twitter, but now you're claiming to have created Web 2.0 it will very quickly become about you :-) BTW: where's the smear? I said Internet marketers have discovered Twitter? is that a smear? you allegedly don't sell ebooks, my bad, but you certainly sell a lot of hot air and promises... point out EXACTLY how I've smeared you? Or did you not read the ebook about reading a post first before crying like a 2 year old :-)

Internet Marketers tend to follow other Internet Marketers, we are a community with the same right to be connected as everyone else. We understand or will quickly learn that peeps will simply turn you off if you constantly spam them "buy my eBook" shortened URLs. Twitter is undoubtedly the easiest way to stay connected, network, announce what your doing, and get your blog posts read.

I want to follow John Reese
I want to know what he is working on today
I want to know when he has updated his blog

If YOU DON'T - just turn him off!
(same applies to any of his subscribers that stumble into Twitter 'like an Amway rep at a funeral'. Turn them off and they will magical disappear from view).

The title of this blog has - quite obviously - been constructed to ride on his back.

The beauty of twitter is that you choose who you want to follow and who follows you. It is the essence of Web 2.0, you have a say. It is not telemarketing. Let me explain: If you don't like what somebody you are following is saying, stop following them. If any of your followers misbehaves, block them. Simple as that.

BTW, I thoroughly enjoy John Reese's posts, I think he is one of the best internet marketing people around and I get great recommendations from him. You should try listening, you may learn one thing or two.
