The Inquisitr: Obama Joker poster neither biting nor satire

  • velvethammer · 4 months ago
"Selective Outrage" Two can play the political satire with a bite game. Bush as a bloodthirsty vampire on the cover of LA Weekly by none other than Shepard Fairey of Obama Hope poster fame

Bush as the joker published in Vanity Fair July 2008

The tables are turned. The left is the establishment now. How does it feel?
  • mc · 4 months ago
Wow I had no idea the <ahem> artist...was the same. You can't make this stuff up.
  • uknowbetter · 4 months ago
Oh, btw, Kim, if you like socialist Europe so much, MOVE.
  • silverwlf600 · 4 months ago
i have been a reublican and i thnk that obama wants to destroy the usa to make it a third world country he also wants to run the world as a dictator we don,t need a dictator and i will not bow down to obama
  • Kim_LaCapria · 4 months ago
Okay, honestly, I'm going to assume you're serious here and ask for what purpose Obama would want to "turn the US into a third world country." Will he knock down all our architecture and replace it with crudely built huts? Will he deliberately sabotage our infrastructure? I don't understand how anyone could think that is a real possibility. :/
  • silverwlf600 · 4 months ago
first of obama never really liked this contry his wife michelle has said this is the first time she has ever liked this country obama is asking for money that we don,t have he is trying to brake us where is all this money coming from who is really paying for all these stimulas plans it is the people yes i meant what i said i will never bow down to what he wants we would been better off with george w bush

The poster is brilliant Kim. Socialism is organized crime, and Obama is the master villain. Your condescension is laughable.
  • Kim_LaCapria · 4 months ago
How is it brilliant, though? Obvious commentary is obvious. Look at Billionaires for Bush. That was effing clever. :)
  • d_redhat · 4 months ago
It's brilliant because it captures Obama's true nature in one image. Also, It's timed to catch him as his popularity is in decline. The image generated hundreds of news stories and exposed a different assessment of the president that cannot be found in any previous press coverage. But most of all, it's brilliant because people like you who support Obama blindly and unquestioningly don't understand it. Therefore your criticisms sound like flailing inept whining.
  • Kim_LaCapria · 4 months ago
How do you know I blindly follow Obama? I already said I'm a Libertarian and your analysis of the poster is your opinion, just as I offered mine. I'm not whining, just underwhelmed at a rather lame attempt at protest art.
  • d_redhat · 4 months ago
You're a Libertarian and you support govt. involvement in the health care industry? I doubt you even know what a Libertarian is.
  • petercourtenaystephens · 4 months ago
Don't make me laugh. Your pathetic criticism of the Socialist/ Nazi Obama poster is, as I said, pathetic.. Sociailism is slavery and if you want to live it go to the EU. I'll take my freedom and use the teeth I have left at 71. In fact, socialism is unconstituional, but who gives a screw about the Constitution except honest people.
  • Kim_LaCapria · 4 months ago
Ah, but the beauty of a democracy is that we get to be of different minds here. I don't wanna live in Europe, I wanna live here and have socialized healthcare.
  • desimal · 4 months ago
Kim, i get it, but would you have mentioned this when they had pictures of Bush and Rumsfield with "War Criminal" underneath a few years ago?

    good photoshop skills tho
  • Kim_LaCapria · 4 months ago
I don't recall, was it newsworthy then?
  • mary65 · 4 months ago
HA ha ha ... it's only newsworthy when it's your feewings that are hurt. Unreal.
  • ATLJTB · 4 months ago
"Are we supposed to be scared of socialism?" Might be MORE frightening than Obama himself. Perhaps you should venture to use your brain a little. Europe's social endeavors have been largely successful thanks to what? Since WWII the United States has served as the military muscle behind most of Europe. Which represents the most significant piece of Bush's announcements to close many European installations. Europe has had 50 years of a free ride and now we will see within the next 5 years, just how stable that socialized economy is. More so than $$$ however is the forfeiture of personal freedoms. Life isn't easy but I like my chances when left to my own means, and the more power we allow Washington, the fewer our own means.
  • Kim_LaCapria · 4 months ago
As a Libertarian, I agree with you on principal, but as a green Libertarian, I think it's bullshit we pour money into the military and Goldman Sachs and not healthcare. The for-profit system is just f*cked- inefficient. We're not as healthy as Europe.
  • Mark 'Rizzn' Hopkins · 4 months ago
As a libertarian, you're *for* socialized medicine? Seems to be a contradiction in terms to me.
  • robertreed · 4 months ago
All to often Liberals run to defend the person in office by trying to make us all feel as though we have no heart. Try listing all the social programs we the working people support. I believe in free market, hard work, and not letting guilt run my life. I feel for persons with little to no income, and give to programs to assist those who are in need.
  • Kim_LaCapria · 4 months ago
I'm not Liberal, but I think that we need to kick corporations off welfare and redirect our funds to the weaker elements of society-elements which have spiraled out of control since Bush 2.
  • d_redhat · 4 months ago
    Really? All your European lovers?
  • Kim_LaCapria · 4 months ago
    I'm a pretty modern chick.
  • d_redhat · 4 months ago
    What's modern about sleeping around?
  • Kim_LaCapria · 4 months ago
If you really want to know, you should probably go ask your mother. I hear she's a real expert. :)
  • d_redhat · 4 months ago
You're the one that was bragging that all your lovers had all their teeth. Really high standards there. Oh, and I found your picture in your profile. You look more like the joker than the Obama poster does. No wonder you have to go to Europe to find someone willing to screw you.
  • krj · 4 months ago
Great satire... or would you prefer we dust-off W's monkey suit and try it on O-boy?
  • Mark 'Rizzn' Hopkins · 4 months ago
Via @cstricklin: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-bY92mcOdk "I think the intention of the artist was to portray President Obama as an agent of chaos and destruction. Just a guess. Ultimately, the Joker (especially as portrayed by Ledger) symbolized anarchy and chaos. That's why I think the artist made the choice."
  • Kim_LaCapria · 4 months ago
I can't see the video (I think it's my browser) but I would love to see private insurance eliminated. I just personally don't believe that medical care and for-profit insurance are a good combination. I think your analysis is spot on, but how anyone can think that healthcare will be the catalyst for chaos? May I direct them back to the clusterf*cks that were Iraq, Afghanistan, the loss of New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina, Habeus Corpus, Cheney leaking CIA info for retribution, so on, so forth...
  • Mark 'Rizzn' Hopkins · 4 months ago
Those clusterfscks were all as a result of direct governmental bureaucracy in action. This is the same bureaucracy you'd like to see in charge of medical coverage in America? That which is responsible for our very lives?

I'm pretty sure that the government, particularly American-style bureaucracy (note I'm not saying Obama-style liberalism/socialism), will be a good chaos agent.

    I can't stop myself.....

    Why so serious?
  • Starr · 4 months ago
It's not as bad as the Obama-Hitler posters that LaRouche has poppin all over the place.

    Stupid. Shit.
  • mary65 · 4 months ago
Yes and Bush was *never* depicted as Hitler. Did you object then on principle?
  • Dungeater · 4 months ago
socialism is scary ... so is this narcissistic asshole. I love it when liberals say " I don't see the connection, how can the man that is Lincoln/FDR/JFK/King be the Joker?"

I also thought it was rather entertaining when one liberal dumbass said, umm joker no I don't see it but robin hood maybe!

    they're so fucking stupid ...
  • mc · 4 months ago
I have a hard time believing he was a liberal because robin hood fits.
  • uknowbetter · 4 months ago
Pair the image with this famous chart:
    http://blog.heritage.org/2009/03/24/bush-defici...

Al Queda couldn’t do this much damage in their wildest dreams. I don’t know what others have gotten out of his first 6 months, but to me he sure comes across as a madman bent on destroying America.

A “teachable moment” Socialism --watered down communism a stepping stone. Why do so many refuse to learn from the lessons of history?

We cannot expect the Americans to jump from capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving Americans small doses of socialism until they suddenly awake to find they have Communism.” – Soviet Leader Nikita Khrushchev 1959

European socialism is a miserable failure made worse by the crypto-Europeans like your staff that suck up to it.
  • Thierry · 4 months ago
As a European resident I can assure you that health care over here sucks. Sucks. Dental care ? What were you saying about having all of one's teeth ? Are you serious ? My Swedish friends, all well paid IT professionals, cannot afford to pay for dental care which IS NOT included in their sub-standard socialized medical insurance. Colon cancer ? How a bout a 6-month wait in Norway for any kind of treatment. Hospitals ? Let's be serious guys. Many of the victims of the French heat wave died in hospitals. Hospitals without air conditioning and , yes, without ice cubes. Socialism is a disease that must be stopped by ALL MEANS NECESSARY.
  • mc · 4 months ago
Hurts when it's on your side, huh? Vanity fair had the same pic of Bush, and the net had countless atrocious depictions (blood dripping from shark-like teeth for the soldiers). The difference is you never heard the president whining about it, or his voters. Is he going to try to control the internet now? The guy's ego never stops.
  • velvethammer · 4 months ago
Exactly. I did not support Bush in everything he did. But I can say one thing he did not have the thin skin as Obama and his sycophants do. Pathetic really. Ever since Obama threw his hat in the ring if someone disagreed with him it was racist. Why even back in the campaign, some hack claimed socialism was code for black.Mind boggling. Obama repeatedly played the race card, his worshipers followed his lead.
And they still do. If Obama were as white as the driven snow they would not have their race baiting ammunition. Worked out pretty good for the left dontcha think?
