  • We have NEVER been cited for cruelty in over 150 yrs. We have 5 stables, 2 of which are state of the art. All of our horses in nyc have box stalls. (which the mounted police horses dont even have)They get ferrier care, worming, and dental and vet care on a schedualed basis…which is all recorded for the city. We are overseen by 5 agencies (we have more regulations and oversight than at-risk children). We have temp restrictions, and hr work restrctions which are overseen by the aspca. We send our horses to vacations on farms 3-4 months out of each yr. When our horses are retired they are adopted out through one of 3 adoption programs we use. We are licensed 4 times over (carriage, driver, horse, and stable) We are fully insured. Our horses were trained specifically for this job… PETA is really good at lying to people. their intentions are evil. They want to do away with all human to animal relationships. ALL of them including pets. Its disgusting. Whats even more disgusting is that people like Kristen Johnston (who dont know anything about horses in the first place) are halping them!
If you want the TRUTH you can see my videos on youtube of my horses on my farm and in their stable in nyc and at work. This is the TRUTH. I can prove everything I say….they cant! Please take a look before you believe everything they say.

  • Support PETA
  • If you support PeTA then you will be falling for and supporting a liar. When Ingrid Newkirk wrote this," The "stalls" are boxes or bars that fit just around their bodies, like sow stalls on factory farms"., in an article on PeTA's website she told a bald face lie. The stalls are plenty large enough for the horses to lay down on nice clean bedding.

Here's a link to the PeTA article. http://blog.peta.org/archives/2008/12/lets_not_...
  • It doesn't matter how plush and comfy the stalls are. Ingrid Newkirk wants "total animal liberation". She says as much in her own words in this Youtube video:

  • I think motorized vehicles should be banned and leave the horses. If anyone were to look at the accident reports involving carriage horses, it clearly states that nearly all of them were caused by the horses being spooked by some insane idiot behind the steering wheel, or a car ran into a carriage. It's the people driving cars who are dangerous and cruel.
  • What should be done is pass more strict regulations to prevent abuse. I dont see the harm in horse drawn carrages. The hell with PETA!
  • everyone is all hung about about carriage horses that have to work because it is not a natural setting for a horse, has anyone stopped to think about other animals in the same situation ? like a police dog made to live in a unnatural situation brought on my humans, or a seeing eye dog or a show horse that is hauled around from show to show state to state confined in a small stuffy trailer for sometimes hundreds of miles?NO!!! you dont everyone just seems to be picking on carriage horses and why? look around people alot of animals have human inflicted jobs to full fill that they didnt ask for , and if you ask me animal showing is the worst, those animal get drugged for shows and dragged all over the country to do it, and for what a title? at least the carriage horses are doing what has been bred into them for hundreds of years and just think if your great great great great grand daddy had not done what carriage drivers are doing here today, you more than likely would not be here today , America was built on horse power not police dogs and show horses and puppy mills , those are the animals you should take more pitty on the ones people keep locked away in puppy mills and we cant see there condition and are bred heat after heat after heat, but you dont people think nothing of dropping a thousand dollars on a tea cup yorkie from a puppy mill.look at the big picture , i think changes should be made , i am from st.louis and am a carriage driver , i recently went to new york city and didnt like all of what i saw or was told concerning the carriage horses, i do not agree that the horses should be kept in warehouses with no turn out, i do not think the drivers are the best as i saw them do very risky driving that i would never do, i did meet one young man when i was in central park driving a horse named dream and he really seemed like he liked his horse alot and no he was not trying to cash in on a dollar with me trying to act like he liked his horse, all carriage driving is not bad. and remember a old saying my mom tought me about horses when i was very young , its never the horse its human error , maybe if the drivers drove better and obeyed the traffic rules less accidents would occur, i have been driving in downtown st.louis for almost 11 years and between companies we have has 3 accidents in that time .maybe new york has the problem but not everyone!!

my horse curley i drive has a great life he is more spoiled than my 4 personal pet horses that do nothing but strand around and eat and horses are like people , it would get quite boring just sitting around doing nothing and eating all day right ? same for horses they want a purpose and something to do as well , though if you take advantage of them yes you can ruin the spirit of a great and noble creature such as the horse.curley works 4 days a week and after 4 weeks of working 4 days he vacations for 2 complete weeks , he is treated respectfully , lovingly and like my friend not my work horse , so all in all, maybe new york has a problem but eveyone doesnt.

  • seems as though we could effect a compromise on the issue and build out a proper stable for the horses at central park ... more of a meadow for them to romp on, rather than their present shabby digs ... just a thought.
