JS-Kit acquires HaloScan, buy why trash talk Disqus?

Started by Duncan Riley · 1 year ago

Blog toolkit provider JS-Kit has acquired blog commenting service HaloScan. Haloscan offers a blog commenting system that competes in the commenting 2.0 space against Disqus, Sezwho, Intense Debate and JS-Kit itself. JS-Kit had previously partnered with Haloscan to offer JS-Kit’s rat ... Continue reading »

  • I have to say that their incessantly negative marketing has completely turned me off any interest I have ever had in them, and that includes covering any news about them. They stalk any articles or comments that praise competitors, and then come in throwing mud., which just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. If the product really is as great as they claim, they why not just let the market shake out as it will? The only thing I'd use JS-Kit for at this point unless they seriously clean up their act is an example of how not to market a product. And I have no association with any of these comment systems, nor do I personally use any of them, in case anyone thinks that's my beef.
  • I agree that Daniel is doing an amazing job as the face of Disqus (on par with Loic at Seesmic).
I use Disqus, and am really looking forward to seeing how they respond to some of the more advanced features JS-Kit is offering here (like that whole SEO subdomain thing)

  • CyndyA, Thanks for your thoughts. Several weeks ago, it had been our position to ask the tough questions, and ask for honesty and a straight-up-and-down approach. When it seems a competitor is not going for full disclosure, this may get called out. When that quiets down, so do the comments on the topic. If folks consider that "trashing" then let them keep their head in the sand. Loyalty is important too. It's pretty obvious in "@" tweets that all good business folks on twitter, ff, etc. look for banter about their own company and competitors, or they wouldn't be doing a good job. That is how a number of people who need support are found (usually working on an installation). I still haven't seen a single instance of "trash talk", including in this post. Only observations and honest encouragement. Your loyalty is admirable, and I'm sure you're valued for it. "Keep it classy!" That's the motto. ;) Thanks for your interest in the topic! --Nancy from JS-Kit
  • ok, im sold. going to try Disqus on my magazine now
  • @JS-Kit Trashing your competitors in public is not subtle and very bad karma. I've always found that false praise and a few back handed compliments do the trick. You know like "Disqus is a great service. I think they are doing a great job at pulling commentators of blogs...".

Even better is follow the advice from RWW: http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/how_to_com.... I don't think everyone getting along is a fundamental of web 2.0 but focusing on your competitors at the expense of your users is a very bad sign.
  • Great Post mate
  • Awesome posting ....
    Thanks for the sharing .
  • The attorney at law or the law firm designated in a court’s records as representing a particular party in a particular action. As long as a party is represented by an attorney of record, all documents, correspondence, and other communications that are intended for that party, whether from the court or the other parties in the action, must go instead to the attorney of record.
  • thanks for the post
  • your site is on my favorites now
  • JS-Kit isn’t often collectively bundled with the Disqus, Sezwho and Intense Debate as its commenting tools are offered along side a range of other inline blogging tools, including polls, ratings (placing it against Outbrain) and some in-blog referral tools.
Good point, completely agree with you, thanks.
  • Great post, really help me alot. Thanks.

There may be hope for those suffering from mesothelioma though. A diagnosis does not mean death. Many new drugs are being used to help treat the disease and may improve the mesothelioma prognosis greatly. • I didn't know search engines could see comments when using the API plugin. That's a great search engine ranking tip for people using Disqus comments. Thanks.
