The Inquisitr: Hey Apple and AT&T, does a jar of Vaseline come with that iPhone 3GS?

  • Tony Buser · 6 months ago
So AT&T tells me I will be eligible for an upgrade in 6 months, my question is why don't they let me sign a 2.5 year contact and get the 3GS for the regular price? Instead they want to charge me $218 extra which just means they lost a sale for 6 months.

This is like every subsidized phone from every manufacturer and carrier on the planet. I really think Gizmodo nails this one:

Good Christ does nobody understand how phone subsidies work? This will be the same Tory with a RIM upgrade or a Pre upgrade. The reason the cheap upgrade on the 3G is that the first iPhone was NOT subsidized. Get a frakkin' clue. This is no special AT&T boning. This is how upgrades work PERIOD in the cell business.

Did you expect anything else dealing with Apple & AT&T?

You guys are fools. Everyone knows you can't get that price until you are eligible for an upgrade. The one exception to this is the owners of the original iPhone who according to the rules did not buy a subsidized phone, they paid more for theirs and can upgrade whenever they want. Otherwise this is the same story for every phone on the market, they all cost more if you are not eligible for the upgrade.
