Google Chrome: Should You Convert?

Started by Duncan Riley · 10 months ago

The cat’s finally out of the bag, and Google Chrome is actually in our hands. So is it impressive enough to be worth converting?

  • looking forward to Chrome for efficiency's sake... plus Google tends to roll out really well-tested software, so it shouldn't be half bad in any case
  • 2 things:
    1) There's no need to be concerned by Chrome's 'beta nature'. As a Google product, it'll be in beta until the end of time.
    2) There's no need to be concerned about your privacy. Set Chrome to private and turn off cookies, if you want.
  • It is an interesting beta, but I wouldn't recommend a switch. I actually prefer IE7 of Firefox.
Too many pages that won't display properly, and I was surprised that the Google Toolbar was not included or an option.
I immediately disabled sending usage statistics to Google too. I might peek back a few times during the week, but then it will go unused like Firefox and Safari.
  • Oh yeah, and no print button. I know we are in the "Green Age", but I still need to easily print things and don't like to type or navigate menus.
  • Uh, you guys do know that the IE8 beta has individual processes for tabs, and all the other same goodness? There aint much in it that isn't in IE8 at all.
  • i would shift if the add-ons move. Thats the only thing keeping me entrenched in Firefox.

  • The interesting questions to me are not if Chrome (beta) is ready for prime time (it is not) or which established browser will suffer more (they all will.) What I find more interesting is that it appears to have all the trappings of a disruptive technology hiding in plain sight.

I wrote more about this idea here:
