I have been looking for a way to share files between my 2 computers AND quickly send files to friends. Dropbox is fast and works like you would expect. Really well done.

Re: Dropbox: online storage done right

Duncan,
The reason that it feels so fast is the files are stored locally.
You still have them on your machine, they are only updated when you update them, your not pulling them down from a server.

Re: Dropbox: online storage done right

Dropbox is using local files. It syncs changes to other computers and the cloud. But when you save/open files it is to a local folder on the PC/Mac

Re: Dropbox: online storage done right

I've been using dropbox for around 7 months now and absolutely love it. It hasn't yet turned into my #1 'cloud storage' system - that spot is firmly secured by Jungledisk however dropbox's features just work really really well.
