Is World of Warcraft included on the list? Well, I think those vulgar or sexually explicit games are justifiable to be banned in Australia except for these MMOs like WoW which provides us fun and entertainment. What's your classification of "Adult" games anyway? Is farming wow gold part of it? If it is, that's certainly an absurd idea! We have to bear in mind that the problem is never the game, it's the person playing it.

Re: Confirmed: Second Life, online adult games to banned outright in Australia

Well i second the motion what australian political goverment agreed on. Because where also commiting to banned Second here in Asia in the next political conference on asian nations namely Japan, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, and Korea leaving that idiotic game only there in western nations only... since it top most of the gaming online violation here in asia.

Namely:

a. Rude unknown gestures,
b. users disputes,
c. sexual violence and simulation against women and children,
d. Explotation of women and child simulation,
e. to many sexual genital availability to users even really not needed and against the law to walk in asia naked.
f. Gambling, and corrupt second life goverments to pausing there own monetary virtual money and charging real money for something that is not real,
g. corrupt land owner ship and sales of land for just a online game and charging US dollar which is not the monetary fund money here in asia.
h. Unfair treament to people and free users of secondlife,
i. and to many griefers most of the time while online,
j. child access to illegal 3d software here in asia namely secondlife without restriction which is also illegal,
k. unsafe use of credit cards from hackers of secondlife,
l. no technical support or no support at all to foreign asian pc and asking to much system resources system requirement for a online stupid game like 2gb memory, 3ghz processor, lots of disk space.

What do you think of money that are use to buy those items. Money don't fell from the sky you know. People here hard earn every bit of cent to earn a living. not like in america people just sit around and waiting for a pay check from the government that does'nt exit here in asia.

so it come to our attention if second life don't change there attitude in doing online business we will be force to put it in the next asian conference of nations to banned second anywhere in asia and auto delete from any access point to any given service provider server online. once read and captured online anywhere to prevent downloading its software and accessing it's website permanently.

Re: Confirmed: Second Life, online adult games to banned outright in Australia

People Like Me? A "free" country that has a "Minister for Censorship!?" This is something we might expect from China, North Korea or Iran, but Australia!? The Nazis would be so proud!

Those who call themselves "Christians" or "Moral," might see this as a "victory" over "evil." But for them, as well as all who applaud this travesty of freedom I will quote Benjamin Franklin, who said:

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

It appears the people of Australia are still prisoners, exiled as were their forefathers and permitted only the "freedoms" their masters deem fit. It will be interesting to see if they accept this Orwellian destiny or rise up and demand the freedoms so many of them have given their blood to defend around the world.

As for Second Life (SL) and its "danger" as a source of adult content; SL is no more or less dangerous than the rest of the Internet. Those who wish to can find virtually anything they want on the Internet, good, bad or indifferent.

It should be up to adults and parents, not a "Nanny State," to take the steps necessary to limit exposure to content they deem inappropriate for themselves or their children. This can be done at the individual PC or user level.

By banning access to Second Life, the Australian government is not only cutting off access to "adult" content, but also art, music, education and collaboration opportunities that have the potential to enlighten, inspire and improve the lives of its citizens, young and old alike. If the government of Australia succeeds in censoring SL from their citizens, those of us who work, learn and yes "play" in Second Life will miss the tremendous spirit and contributions our Australian brothers and sisters make to SL everyday.

I close with a quote from another of our (American) Founding Fathers, that I hope will be taken to heart by all those who love freedom in Australia and around the world:

""The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." Thomas Jefferson

Re: Confirmed: Second Life, online adult games to banned outright in Australia

Unlikely. Second Life has not yet been classified by ACMA so even if this *proposed* internet scheme were to go through tomorrow it would not be banned until it went under review. The internet scheme is currently just a proposal which is technically not possible to implement in an effective and efficient manner. It will probably end up as an opt-in scheme that ISPs need to *offer* to parents which does customisable filtering.
Stop spreading FUD like this, it does nothing to help anyone.
I study Information Technology Security at University and have been following the legal and technical aspects of the internet filtering scheme for a while.

Re: Confirmed: Second Life, online adult games to banned outright in Australia

I recommend people contact the minister's office at http://www.minister.dbcde.g... before believing rubbish like this.
